I discovered my Windows Firewall was deactivated today.  I know that it was activated before and I did not deactivate it.  Why would it be deactivated if I did not do it and nobody else uses my pc?
I discovered the Firewall had been deactivated when I saw my computer was using 100% processor (not at cause of me running programs as I was not running any that would take that much processor usage) and was receiving and sending information on the internet (again notcausedby me). Once I noticed that I went directly to my Control Pannel > Security Center and saw the Firewall had been deactivated. I know that it was activated before and I did not deactivate it myself. I went ahead and reactivated it successfully andran a Windows Defender scan (nothing turned up). I am going to run a virus scan using Avast to be safe.4 people need an answerI do too

To turn on my Windows Firewall (from the Start Menu) I open Control Pannel > Security Center > Click on Windows Firewall (under where it says Manage security settings for): > then simply make sure that the On (recommended) option is selected (should see a green dot in the center of the bubble if it is selected). Then Ok.If that doesn't do it then you need to contact Microsoft urgently. ((I use XP professional 32 so I do not know if this works the same for other opperating systems))

I found my Firewall turned off again today. I've run spy ware scans, registry scans, uniblue speed up my pc and gotten rid of everything that looked malicious. Went in and made sure the Firewall was reactivated for all internet connections. I'm growing quite concerned though as this is the second time this has happened to my pc and I know that I did not turn the Firewall off. I'm using Windows XP Professional (32bit) with Service Pack 3. I have not gotten an answere for this yet either from my previous post. I'm wondering when I'll get a reply.

I have the same issue. I had heard something about the removal and replacement of virus protection software causing this issue but I'm not sure if it applies to me as I removed AVG and applied the MICROSOFT security application, and this issue started several weeks after I changed virus protection software.Maybe this will help someone else help us find an answer.

I have started getting this problem in last week (added a posting yesterday). It only started when I accessed a specific website (not sure if I'm allowed to name it, but dont want sued if it's something I have not set correctly) and it's happened only twice and I have only accessed this site twice. I am also using XP with service pack 3. Worrying !!!
